One interesting thing is that in the UK the elderly were offered free Vitamion D as it was recognised it would help. It was even on mainstream news on the BBC radio. Once. Then it all went quiet.
They recognise that elderly and vulnerable people (diabetics) need more Vitamion D so headline the government scheme. This page is from December 2020. So then what happened?? I don't know, I had stopped listening to MSM by that time but I am sure the Vitamin D offer from UK gov was first rolled out earlier in the year. I will have to check now... but late December 2020 saw the rollout of the miracle injection. Something to ponder on.
Bottom line is that they knew then as they do now that Vitamin D is essential but somehow something stepped in and it seems to have been denied and supressed just like all the other good stuff.
Aye, no doubt. That there is some nod by the gov that VitD does somwething and using ineffective doses just allows them later to say see, it makes no difference and pull the plug.
This recommendation of 0.01 mg 400 IU vitamin D3 cholecalciferol per day is less than 1/10th of the 0.125 mg 5000 IU a day 70 kg non-obese adults need to attain a proper 50 ng/mL 125 nmol/L 25-hydroxyvitamin D level, as is needed for proper immune system function. This is based on the disproven Institute of Medicine 2011 report: https://vitamindstopscovid.info/00-evi/#05-history .
I collaborate with researchers, MDs and professors (some are both or all three) who have been working on vitamin D for decades. They are at their wits end about the systemic official denial of what is really needed.
In a social scientific policy context, see the following intriguing discussion, rather recently posted as a blog entry at a dedicated blog site of The London School of Economics and Political Science. The author, Daniele Fanelli (LSE), seeks an answer to the following question: "Are public health policies keeping up with shifting scientific consensus? The case of vitamin D."

Thank You for this update. There has (dr)been too much obvious wishful thinking and ignoring of the data.
